how to change the transmitter from an rc airplane?

i bought an rc plane and i want to change the control (transmitter)
but i don't know if need to change the receiver to and doest it matter how many channels they are and how do i change it once i have the things

you may not have to change the receiver if you get a transmitter on the same channel. Or if you do get a new transmitter on a different chanel just buy a crystal for your receiver(11$) and after you install it you are now on the same channel as your transmitter.
